It might not be a first-party Nintendo game, but Baldo: The Guardian Owls has been a highly anticipated game since its reveal in March 2020. When Baldo releases on August 27, it’ll introduce us to a new world and a thrilling adventure. (Baldo is also releasing for PC, but there’s no release date for that platform yet.)
What is Baldo: The Guardian Owls?
Not only an action-adventure game, Baldo: The Guardian Owls is also an RPG. Players will control Baldo, the “pure-heart child” who was foretold by an ancient prophecy. A mysterious “no-heart creature sealing in the underworld by the wise owls” is rising and Baldo must deal with the consequences of this evil and save the world.
As an ARPG, the game will feature exploration, combat, and puzzles along with dungeons to explore and “unforgettable characters.” There will be objects to collect and hidden temples to visit as you travel through the beautiful hand-drawn world.
Baldo was originally scheduled for release in summer 2020 as a timed console exclusive. Sadly, the Ghibli-style game was delayed indefinitely in September 2020. While it wasn’t mentioned in the delay announcement, it seems likely that the Covid-19 pandemic had a role in the decision.
When Does Baldo: The Guardian Owls Release?
Baldo is finally releasing on August 27 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Apple Arcade.
The Nintendo page for Baldo is already online and ready for the game to launch along with the Xbox Store page. The PlayStation page isn’t active yet, and the Steam Store page currently lists Baldo as “Coming Soon”. These pages are expected to be updated very soon for the official Baldo release date.
