February 2022 Nintendo Direct Recap

From classic JRPG remasters to new installments of beloved franchises, the first Nintendo Direct of the year had a little bit for everybody. Nintendo announced so many new games coming to the Switch in the first half of the year, it was hard to keep up, so here’s the Nintendo Watcher recap.

Here are some of the biggest games announced during the show:

In addition to these brand new titles, it was also revealed that a few other big titles are making their way to Switch this year — and some a lot sooner. Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings are both finally making their way to Nintendo Switch Online. And Nintendo made them available right after the Direct, so if you have an NSO subscription, you can play Earthbound now. Nintendo also announced that the previously Japan-exclusive game LIVE A LIVE is also coming to Switch for western audiences this year.

Nintendo surprised us with a few interesting additions to the Switch library. The Portal series is coming to the Switch with the Portal: Companion Collection containing both games. In addition to this, the Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series will be arriving on Switch in July.

Other games confirmed for a Switch release during the show include:

  • Assassin’s Creed Ezio Collection

  • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

  • SD Gundam Battle Alliance

  • Disney Speedstorm

  • Front Mission 1st: Remake

  • No Man’s Sky

  • MLB The Show

Nintendo also took the time to reveal more information about various existing games, including showing much more of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. However, there was not as much information as expected about Splatoon 3. A release date for the next Splatoon game was not announced during the show.
