Is This Japanese Magazine Teasing A New Kirby Game?

We’ve known for a while that Nintendo will be releasing a new Kirby game this year, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, but is there another Kirby game on the horizon? Twitter user Dededaio posted an interesting discovery online along with a small section of the magazine. It’s included in the February 21 edition of the Nintendo Dream magazine in Japan, and it seemingly teases another Kirby game.

Translating it, Dededaio reveals that the teaser in the magazine says, “In addition to detailed news about Kirby and The Forgotten Land, we’ve also included a new game that we didn’t expect!”

While getting a second new Kirby game this year would be unusual, it’s not unprecedented. This year marks Kirby’s 30th anniversary, and Nintendo has released multiple games for other major franchise anniversaries. For Mario’s 35th annivesary, for example, Nintendo released the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection, an enhanced version of Super Mario 3D World that included the groundbreaking Bowser’s Fury, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros, and several events and limited-edition merchandise.

So a new Kirby game — or a remastered Kirby game —would be in keeping with how Nintendo celebrated Mario and Link, but a new game may not necessarily feature Kirby as the main character. It could also be a special event in other games that features Kirby.
