Ishihara: New Pokémon Snap Was Result of Trial and Error

In an interview with Famitsu, Tsunekazu Ishihara, President of The Pokémon Company, revealed a few new things about the Pokemon Snap series. Nintendo Everything provided English translations of the original Japanese interview about New Pokémon Snap.

During the interview, Ishihara revealed that The Pokémon Company considered bringing the series back at various times over the years. Every time Nintendo released a new console, the topic of a new Pokémon Snap game came up, but it took until the Nintendo Switch for the true sequel to the classic Nintendo 64 title to take off.

Haruki Suzaki, the director of New Pokémon Snap, also commented that the team had considered changing the core mechanics for New Pokémon Snap, but they ultimately decided to not change it. He noted that taking photos in a game isn’t unusual now, so it was a “difficult concept to design a game around.”

New Pokémon Snap was, as Ishihara stated, the “fruits of many years of trial and error” to find the right concept for the Nintendo Switch.
