Japanese Nintendo customer service is reminding fans that the support for credit cards and prepaid cards will be ending for 3DS and Wii U next month.
The team’s Twitter account states that this change will be coming into place on January 18, 2022.
In 2019, Nintendo ended support for Credit Cards and prepaid cards for Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The news that support is now ending for Japan isn’t too surprising since Nintendo is focusing on the Nintendo Switch now. In addition, the Nintendo 3DS wasn’t designed for two-factor authentication, which is bad news and some regions require 2FA for certain payment options.
There has been no word by Nintendo about when — or if — the Americas will be getting the same treatment. But for now, the eShop doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, and gamers can still top-up their accounts to purchase games.
