Remember those PIKMIN Short Movies that Nintendo released a few years ago? Dynamo Pictures, the visual production company behind those PIKMIN shorts, has just been acquired by Nintendo.
The acquisition announcement documentation is available online here in English. The notification of acquisition states that Nintendo has decided to acquire 100% of the outstanding shares of Dynamo Pictures, making it a wholly owned subsidiary of Nintendo.
Nintendo says the reason behind this interesting acquisition is to “strengthen the planning and production structure of visual content in the Nintendo group.”
It also noted that the visual production company will “focus on development of visual content utilizing Nintendo IP.”
It’s unclear what this means or what Nintendo is planning at this stage. However, it’s clear that Nintendo is interested in creating visual content for its existing IPs, which could include a range of media and entertainment.
The upcoming Mario movie is a good example of Nintendo, once again, reaching beyond the Switch to bring their IPs to your living room. Having Dynamo Pictures’s talent in-house could lead to some very interesting new projects.
As part of the acquisition, Dynamo Pictures is losing its name. After the deal is done, Dynamo Pictures will be known as “Nintendo Pictures Co., Ltd.” According to Nintendo’s notification, the acquisition is expected to close on October 3, 2022.
