Nintendo Suspends eShop Sales In Russia

Nintendo confirmed that the Russian eShop has been “temporarily placed into maintenance mode. The news comes from a service status update made on the support page of the Russian Nintendo website.

The translated version of the statement explains the situation. It reveals that the payment service used in the Nintendo eShop has suspended the processing of payments in rubles. Because of this, Nintendo has placed the Russian Nintendo eShop into maintenance mode. Nintendo concludes the statement by apologizing for the inconvenience and noting they will “share updates as the situation develops.”

It appears that the suspension of the service has been forced by a third party, as opposed to Nintendo making a proactive decision to stop eShop sales in Russia. Meanwhile, Microsoft and other game publishers have willingly ceased all sales within Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine.
