Nintendo’s Japanese customer service Twitter account just announced that an upcoming update for the Nintendo Switch Online will make it incompatible with older iOS devices, which will prevent some users from being able to use voice chat while playing online with friends.
2022年夏ごろに、iOS版『Nintendo Switch Online』アプリのアップデートを実施予定です。このアップデートで動作環境を「iOSバージョン14.0以降」に変更します。

Translating the tweet, the post states that “around the summer of 2022, we plan to update the iOS version for the ‘Nintendo Switch Online’ app.” This update will change its requirements to iOS version 14.0 or later, so it will be incompatible with devices using an older operating system. Nintendo hasn’t commented on if Android will be getting the update as well and if this will also raise the OS requirements.
Nintendo hasn’t officially announced the upcoming iOS update yet for the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app or any new or updated features to the app itself.
