Uncensored Mugen Souls Coming to the Nintendo Switch

Originally released in 2012 for the PlayStation 3, the cult-classic Compile Heart JRPG Mugen Souls will be re-released for the Nintendo Switch, and unlike the game’s original western release, the updated Switch version will be uncensored and faithful to the Japanese original.

This uncensored version of the game also offers full English language text and audio support, making Mugen Souls on the Nintendo Switch the definitive way to play.

The PlayStation 3 western release of Mugen Souls cut some of the content that was originally included in the Japanese release, including risqué mini-games. The new Switch version of Mugen Souls has been updated to include all of the original content, making it true to the Japanese original so that western players can finally play the game as originally intended back in 2012.

It’s unclear if Mugen Souls on the Nintendo Switch is a straightforward port of the PlayStation 3 game or if any quality-of-life enhancements have been made for modern consoles. Play-Asia notes that this will be an “updated version” of Mugen Souls, but it doesn’t go into further details.

Play-Asia has two physical versions of Mugen Souls available: the $39.99 Standard Version and the $59.99 Limited Edition. Along with a physical copy of Mugen Souls, the Limited Edition includes a collector’s box, original soundtrack CD, artbook, sticker sheet, numbered certificate, and manual. If you’re interested in grabbing a Limited Edition of Mugen Souls, order it fast — there are only 3,000 Limited Editions manufactured.

Mugen Souls for the Nintendo Switch will release in Spring 2023, and physical pre-orders are available now.
